A New Beginning

The day was hot in most places, but here it was only a little warm and humid. The lake was cool and refreshing, everything seemed very calm and it looked to be a very nice day. Mina lounged by the water, dipping her front paws in occasionally and flicking her tail lazily. It felt good to relax, really good.

However, she was getting bored quickly. Her form was dark against the bright grass and light blue lake. She gazed at the other animals that came near to take a drink, this was obviously a place of peace amongst them all. But outside of the lakes edges lay danger for the prey and enemies.

Sway happily trotted through the brush, tail high and eyes alert just like she was taught. High steps so she didn’t scrape herself and head low, she finished her quest. Finally she had reached her destined desire; the lake. It made the area so cool not to mention the dog loved water. She jumped in; happily splashing around like there was no tomorrow. She was able to push herself a few feet into the water, but had to swim back due to the lack of depth.

Finally realizing there was a wolf across the lake, which wasn’t uncommon around here, Sway kept quiet. She took a 180 with behavior, quietly laying down half way in the water as she stared at the creature. He didn’t seem like he wanted to harm her, but Sway was cautious with her movements. One wrong turn, and she would be put into place.

Mina noticed the dog in the water, how could she not with the way they entered in? But she continued to lounge, glancing over at the dog a couple of times just to make sure they weren't going to try anything. She kept her head down and her gaze low, Mina didn't enjoy confrontation or fights, which might be why she loves this place so much. Predator doesn't attack Prey, at least, not until they're in the cover of the trees surrounding the lake.

Donovan stepped out from the tree-line, observing the area to check for any threats. He stood up tall, his head high. He stayed this way for a couple minutes, just looking around. When he spotted the dog in the water he tensed up. Walking over to his sister, he couldn't help but say, "We've got company."

"Yeah I know, but they're not doing anything wrong. Just playing in the water." Mina glanced at the dog again, and nodded to her in greeting, which was a bit difficult to accomplish laying down. Donovan nudged her with his paw, "Don't encourage her! What if she came over here?"

Mina smiled at her brother, "If they came over here, then we'd be nice and not hurt her." She added the emphasis so that her brother would understand that this was a place of peace. Donovan could only grumble in reply, but continued to stare at the dog.

Sway kept her distance, observing how the female acted. When a male stepped out, Sway went crazy. She jumped to her feet, twirling around a few times. She wasn’t exactly sure of what she should do. Her tail raised and her ears perked, Sway stood tall. She understood if she was to survive out here it was important to stand your ground if need be.

She attempted a small bark, though nothing really came out. Seeing as how the female seemed to keep the male at bay, Sway relaxed slightly. She returned to the water, splashing around as she ran along the bank. This was so fun! She leaped and bounded along the shore, dipping her front half in the water every few moments so she was refreshed.

The wolves still caught her attention though. Should she follow them? She usually did have someone to talk to and it had been pretty quiet. She decided against it, persuading herself to study them more rather than greet them immediately.

Slumped next to a tree Omie stretched and yawned still trying to wake from him afternoon nap. Thirsty and hot moseyed his way to the opening while lifting his head to smell for others. He could smell two wolves, one big, one small and a..dog? "Hm a little friend?"he smiled. Getting closer he could finally see everyone staring at each. Not wanting to interrupt he walked over to a spot some what close to the dog calmly and quietly. Looking back and forth between the wolves and the pooch he lowered his head to take a drink.

After a few slurps Omie brought up his and focused on the male, observing his every move to keep from confrontation. Growing hotter he walked a little closer to the dog and slid into the water.

Sway couldn’t help but notice the wolf seeming to slip closer to her. She softly slipped further away from him, glancing his way as she did so. He seemed…friendly. Maybe a bit too friendly perhaps? She perked her ears, not wanting to say anything but at the same time wanting to talk up a storm. She slipped deeper into the water, her half-tail wagging as the water touched her skin with curiosity. It felt great to be able to soak in the water.

She felt the rocks under her with her toes, glancing back at the wolf near her. He didn’t seem to want to start any trouble, but she still was keeping her tongue tied until further notice. Later she could follow him and talk as much as she wanted. She shivered at the thought. She slowly made her way out of the water, shaking herself to dry herself off some. She could find a nice warm sun spot to dry in later.

Omie watch curiously as the pup inched away, wondering why she was trying to get away. He took a bigger interest in her now. Watching as she got out of the water he took a big gulp of water in his mouth and swallowing it, then slowly moved a little out of the water so only his hind end was in it. Feeling in a playful mood he was thought of a way to lighten her up a little. He turned back around enough to get another mouth full of water then got up and sat in the grass.

Catching a glimpse of her shaking Omie zoned out thinking about his little friend he recently lost. Snapping out of his day dream after about a minute, his eye drew to the dog. Was he interested in her because no one has ever really tried to get away from him or was it that she reminded him of his recent loss?

Sway curled her lip back at herself. Why was he so transfixed?! A small growl escaped her jaws as she turned to find a sun spot. Shaking herself once more, she softly trotted across the bank, her paws tapping the water and disturbing the peace. She figured this dry area of the bank would work seeing as the sun was peeking from behind the tree tops.

She slowly lowered herself to the ground, readjusting her position so she was on her side. The sun warmed her body. It just gave her a sense of security. No matter how weird the male wolf was acting. She laid her head on the dirt, her body still as she absorbed the heat.

'What a day...' Tip muttered. Since she had left Trophy Gardens, the weather had seemed reasonably warmer. As she slowly walked along, she noticed something to her right: A large, fresh lake. Her ears perked forward with relief.
Water...! Her mind cried out with joy. Turning, she began to lope towards the vast body of cool liquid. She was looking forward to a good, long drink! She slowed as she approached the lake, eyes wide with joy.

She silently crouched beside the edge of lake, ears erect. As she began to lap thirstily at the cool fluid her ears listened out, carefully scanning her surroundings. After her stomach felt full with water, she lifted her head while sitting down simultaneously. The air here felt cooler, more so than back at the gardens, though it was still quite warm. Not a horrible, uncomfortable warmth, but it was pleasant. Very.

She soon found herself lying down on a flattened bed of grass, sunning herself. She was completely unaware of the presence of others around here, but she stayed on the lookout. Watering holes such as this often attracted others...

((Hey guys, sorry I wasn't online for a couple days :C I was really sick))
Donovan was well aware that the area seemed to be getting more activity now that it was later in the day. He was tense still, glaring at every wolf and dog there as if he owned the place. "You know, this isn't your territory, Donny." Mina pointed out, knowing her brother's behavior all too well.

His behavior was one of the reasons she was at first reluctant to try to start a pack with him. He was bossy, and always needed someone to obey him. Right now, Mina was doing that job just fine. But sooner or later he's going to want more wolves following his lead, it was only a matter of who and when.

Mina watched lazily as the male wolf tried to get closer to the female dog. She smiled, it was cute, he was trying to get to know her. She watched the female dog lounge in a sun spot fit for a queen, before peering over and seeing a new wolf was in their midst. Donovan was already aware of the new wolf, and was staring her down. Was she going to be trouble? Calm? Perfectly normal? He wasn't sure yet.

Mina stretched her legs while laying on her side, and grumbled as she rolled over and stood up. She let out a large yawn and stepped casually into the water, the surface splashed as her back legs and tail went in.

This was fun! She couldn't believe she didn't just do this right off the bat! She grinned as she pumped her legs up and down, keeping a steady beat. Mina took in a couple mouthfuls of water before emerging, and realized that she was now a lot closer to the female wolf than before. She tensed up, but didn't show any signs of aggression. 'Be cool, Mina. Be cool.' she thought to herself, as she stared, eyes wide, transfixed on the female wolf.

Watching the dog as she trotted off, Omie nearly had his hind off the ground to follow until the newly arrived female wolf caught the corner of his eye. She didn't seem to want to harm anyone which was refreshing to him, since he wasn't looking for any conflict. He took in everything around, looking back at every wolf and the little dog. He noticed the other male glare at the female and carefully watched, to not get involved if it wasn't necessary. Omie didn't want any problems between anyone, he wasn't in the mood for peace making with trying to figure out the pup at the moment. He relaxed a little bit more as his coffee brown eyes followed the female as she went to bask int he sun like the others.

Tensing his body briefly he could see the black and white pelted female walked towards the other, soon realizing she ment no harm when he noticed her freak out slightly. Finally believing everything was okay he got up, took one last glimpse of the large male and the others then lifted his front paw to start his short jog towards his new "friend". When he reached her Omie plopped his rear down by her and and hung his head over her's and gave a cheesy grin while spiting out a "Hi!"

Tip suddenly looked around, her ears flickered forward. She could hear something. Her fleshy black nose wrinkled. There were new scents in the air - wolves...and another strange scent. Not quite wolf...but it smelt wolfish...a canine's scent.
A dog? No it couldn't be... there couldn't possibly be a dog here, could there? Tip thought. Standing, she stretched her forelegs with her tail and back end in the air and her front end bowed down. With a last yawn, she sprung up from her bowed position, shaking her pelt.

Feeling far more refreshed, she began to look around. In the corner of her eye, she could see several figures. Amongs them, she noticed, there was a dog. She'd been right. Though she feared dogs, as where dogs are, man aren't too far behind, she didn't feel afraid of this particular dog. There was certainly something about it that didn't seem too dangerous. She turned her head so she could get a clear look at who was here, with her gleaming ice-blue orbs scanning the surroundings. She suddenly noticed the other male wolf, along with the female, who appeared to be staring at her.


Staring blankly at the female, she wondered if she meant harm. She decided to try and test this out, just to see the reaction of both the brown, gray and white male and the black and white female wolves. She suddenly barked in a non-threatening tone and leapt back in a Play Bow position, wriggling her back end behind, with her tail loosely dropped between her legs. She sharply perked her ears forward and the corners of her partially mouth raised slightly in a friendly grin. All the time she whined in a happy, friendly way. Despite this, she remained concious of the fact that the wolves may aggressivly chase her away, or even try to attack.
She was only two years old, and all of these canids looked older and were probably far more experienced than she, so she knew she had to try and play it safe and to stay alert, just in case.

Mina's ears flattened on her head, she took a step back, her hind now back in the water. She'd never gotten a reaction like that before, she was a bit taken aback. It was a bit refreshing to see someone so lively and playful, pretty much the opposite of her brother, unless he's with a young pup.

Donovan lowered his head, and hunched over as he took a step closer, his tail raised. He was quite a bit away from his sister and the gray, brown and white female wolf. If he was needed though, he would be there in a few seconds. However, he wasn't going to be needed.

Mina took a step closer, getting herself fully out of the water. She whined and perked her ears forward, she hadn't played like this in a long time and felt a little eager to do so now. She shook the water off her pelt before copying the female's position, whining in a playful tone. She hadn't thought to keep her guard up, the idea of playing overlaying any common sense she has.

Donovan, was of course watching. His ears perked forward when he heard his sister whine, she was actually going to play with the stranger? He knew she was a softie, and realized that she was totally relaxed, something that could get her killed if this wolf was a psycho killer. He slowly and carefully stepped closer and closer, his tail still raised in a warning manner. He'd only pounce if this wolf was a threat, and he tried to show it in his posture. He stopped when he was only a couple feet from the two females. Mina whined again, a wolfish grin overtaking her face, her blue eyes lighting up.

Jumping back to her feet, Tip turned her head around, spotting a second male wolf. Seeing his posture and how much bigger he was compared to her small self. Her playful, happy position faded back into a nervous, unsure stance, as she watched the male. Pinning her ears back, Tip began to step away, feeling as though the male may not want her around. She was use to this kind of behaviour from other wolves, especially when she had previously approached others in a non-threatening way.

She continued to watch for what seemed like a couple of minutes, but in reality was only seconds, before pivoting on her hind legs and loping away from the two wolves to a safe distance a couple hundred yards away, where she stopped. She knew one wrong move could mean a fight, and if both wolves became involved, it could be fatal. She whined softly to herself and looked back to the wolves, with sad, quiet eyes. Looking forward again, she began to slowly walk forward towards some trees that were perched a short distance away.

Mina twirled around to glare at her brother, "What did you do that for? She seemed really nice!" Her throat rumbled as she pinned her ears to her head, obviously angry. "That was seriously uncalled for, Donovan."

"No, what was uncalled for, was trying to play with a complete stranger. Mina, I thought you knew better than that." Donovan growled back at her, his tail rising to full height in a show of dominance, his head above his sister's. Mina wasn't going to back down though, "Back off Donovan." She snapped at him, before turning back to the female wolf.

Mina play-barked at her, she was the first strange wolf she'd come into contact with, and she wasn't just about to give up now. She took a couple steps towards the she-wolf, her posture lax and her eyes kind. When she was a few feet away, she tried again. Mina's upper half was low on the ground, her hind in the air, wiggling in playfulness. Her ears perked forward, hoping for a good response.

Donovan huffed at his sister, it was her problem if this wolf turned out to be psycho. He stepped into the water, trying to cool himself off from how angry he felt. He just wanted to protect his sister, it wasn't like he'd done anything that wrong.

Tip peered around one of the trees she had wandered over to, head lowered and ears still pinned back. She nervously watched the two wolves, obviously having a small argument between themselves. She couldn't really hear what was being said, but as a pre-caution she stayed put. Though she was usually quite timid and cautious around strangers, her longing to want to be social after so long was urging her forward.

Seeing the other female bark playfully back at her, her head automatically jerked upwards. Slowly, her ears reluctantly drew themselves forward as she began to shuffle slowly out from behind the tree, into some long, crisp grass that bordered the trees. She quietly crawed through the grass, in a slow, creeping pace. Before she had ventured into the grass, she'd seen the male head into the water.

Every now and again, Tip would poke her snout just above the grass line. As soon as she would see the female, her head instantly jerked back and she would crawl on, with only her brown-tipped ears visible along the grass line.

She did this several times before finally jumping out again, about five feet from the female wolf, and bowed instantly, playfully wriggling and whining. Several times she also jumped to the sides. She suddenly stopped, looking over at the male. She didn't feel she had done anything wrong to prevoke him to be like that. She just wanted to be social. She hadn't met a friendly wolf in a long time, not since her own brother had died, so loneliness was taking over.
